Hebrews 6:1-3

Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto
perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works,
and of faith toward God, Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of
hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. And this will
we do, if God permit. (Hebrews 6:1-3 KJV)

The Principles of the Doctrine of Christ

The principles, or the first things, of the teachings of Jesus Christ. These are the things which
must be understood. They are a part of the milk of the word.

Perfection

Perfection is maturity. They needed to go beyond the acceptance of these truths.

Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ
Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung,
that I may win Christ, And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of
the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by
faith: That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his
sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; If by any means I might attain unto the
resurrection of the dead. Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect:
but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ
Jesus. Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting
those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I
press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Let us
therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise
minded, God shall reveal even this unto you. (Philippians 3:8-15 KJV)

The Foundation

These are the things upon which the faith and life of Christians are based.

Wherefore hear the word of the LORD, ye scornful men, that rule this people which is in
Jerusalem. Because ye have said, We have made a covenant with death, and with hell are
we at agreement; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, it shall not come unto
us: for we have made lies our refuge, and under falsehood have we hid ourselves:
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried
stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.
Judgment also will I lay to the line, and righteousness to the plummet: and the hail shall
sweep away the refuge of lies, and the waters shall overflow the hiding place. (Isaiah
28:14-17 KJV)

Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to
whom he is like: He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the
foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that
house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock. But he that heareth, and doeth
not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the
stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.
(Luke 6:47-49 KJV)
According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid
the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth
thereupon. For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. (1
Corinthians 3:10-11 KJV)

Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints,
and of the household of God; And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets,
Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; In whom all the building fitly framed
together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: In whom ye also are builded together for
an habitation of God through the Spirit. (Ephesians 2:19-22 KJV)

Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain
riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; That they do good, that
they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate;  Laying up in store
for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on
eternal life. (1 Timothy 6:17-19 KJV)
Faith toward God would seem to need
no explanation; but, it is more than to
believe in God, it is inclusive of trusting
in God – believing in the Father and
what He has said, believing in the Son
and what He has taught, and believing
in the Holy Spirit and what He has
revealed.
Faith
Toward God
Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house
are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that
where I am, there ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know. Thomas
saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way? Jesus
saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by
me. If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye
know him, and have seen him. Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth
us. Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me,
Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the
Father? (John 14:1-9 KJV)

But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that
he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. (Hebrews 11:6 KJV)

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to
every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. For therein is the
righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.
(Romans 1:16-17 KJV)

He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory
to God; And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.
And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness. Now it was not written for his sake
alone, that it was imputed to him; But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe
on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; Who was delivered for our offences,
and was raised again for our justification. (Romans 4:20-25 KJV)

There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared
sumptuously every day: And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at
his gate, full of sores, And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's
table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. And it came to pass, that the beggar
died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was
buried; And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and
Lazarus in his bosom. And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send
Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented
in this flame. But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good
things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.
And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would
pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.
Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house:
For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of
torment. Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.
And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.
And he said unto him,
If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be
persuaded, though one rose from the dead.
(Luke 16:19-31 KJV)
