If I Say the Truth
John 8:46-50
Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why
do ye not believe me? He that is of God heareth God's words: ye
therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.

Then answered the Jews, and said unto him, Say we not well
that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a devil?

Jesus answered, I have not a devil; but I honour my Father, and
ye do dishonour me. And I seek not mine own glory: there is
one that seeketh and judgeth.  (KJV)
Who convicts Me of sin?

Who of the Jews convicts Jesus of sin? Let them point out what He has done. They talk about
it, but they cannot prove it. He was the sinless Son of God.

(Hebrews 4:14-16) Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the
heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. For we have not an high priest
which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like
as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may
obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.  (KJV)

If I say the truth…

Why will they not believe Jesus since He is telling them the truth?

(Matthew 22:16) And they sent out unto him their disciples with the Herodians, saying,
Master, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God in truth, neither carest thou
for any man: for thou regardest not the person of men.  (KJV)

(John 14:6) Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the
Father, but by me.  (KJV)

(Acts 26:24-25) And as he thus spake for himself, Festus said with a loud voice, Paul, thou art
beside thyself; much learning doth make thee mad. But he said, I am not mad, most noble
Festus; but speak forth the words of truth and soberness.  (KJV)

(Galatians 4:16) Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?  (KJV)

(Ephesians 1:11-14) In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated
according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will: That
we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. In whom ye also trusted,
after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye
believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Which is the earnest of our
inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.

(1 Thessalonians 2:13) For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye
received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it
is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.  (KJV)

(2 Thessalonians 2:8-14) And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall
consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:
Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying
wonders, And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they
received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send
them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who
believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness. But we are bound to give thanks
alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning
chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth: Whereunto
he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.  (KJV)

He…hears God’s words

He that is of God hears God’s words. Do you listen to God’s words? Do you understand God’s
words? Do you follow God’s words?

(Deuteronomy 6:1-3) Now these are the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments,
which the LORD your God commanded to teach you, that ye might do them in the land whither
ye go to possess it: That thou mightest fear the LORD thy God, to keep all his statutes and his
commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son's son, all the days of
thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged. Hear therefore, O Israel, and observe to do it;
that it may be well with thee, and that ye may increase mightily, as the LORD God of thy
fathers hath promised thee, in the land that floweth with milk and honey.  (KJV)

(Deuteronomy 12:28) Observe and hear all these words which I command thee, that it may go
well with thee, and with thy children after thee for ever, when thou doest that which is good
and right in the sight of the LORD thy God.  (KJV)

(Deuteronomy 31:11-13) When all Israel is come to appear before the LORD thy God in the
place which he shall choose, thou shalt read this law before all Israel in their hearing. Gather
the people together, men, and women, and children, and thy stranger that is within thy gates,
that they may hear, and that they may learn, and fear the LORD your God, and observe to do
all the words of this law: And that their children, which have not known any thing, may hear,
and learn to fear the LORD your God, as long as ye live in the land whither ye go over Jordan
to possess it.  (KJV)

(Luke 11:27-28) And it came to pass, as he spake these things, a certain woman of the
company lifted up her voice, and said unto him, Blessed is the womb that bare thee, and the
paps which thou hast sucked. But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of
God, and keep it.  (KJV)

A Samaritan & has a devil

The Jews sought any accusation they could against Jesus. He talked to Samaritans and
walked through Samaria, so He must be a Samaritan. He opposed them, so He must have a

I honor My Father

Jesus honors the One whom He calls Father. They call God their Father, yet they do not honor
Him. Honor includes 1) respect & 2) obedience.

(Deuteronomy 5:16) Honour thy father and thy mother, as the LORD thy God hath commanded
thee; that thy days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with thee, in the land which the
LORD thy God giveth thee.  (KJV)

(Proverbs 3:9-10) Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine
increase: So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new
wine.  (KJV)

(Isaiah 29:13-14) Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their
mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their
fear toward me is taught by the precept of men: Therefore, behold, I will proceed to do a
marvellous work among this people, even a marvellous work and a wonder: for the wisdom of
their wise men shall perish, and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid.  (KJV)
(Isaiah 58:13-14) If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my
holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour
him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words:
Then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places
of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the LORD
hath spoken it.  (KJV)

(1 Timothy 1:17) Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour
and glory for ever and ever. Amen.  (KJV)

(Revelation 5:13-14) And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the
earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour,
and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and
ever. And the four beasts said, Amen. And the four and twenty elders fell down and
worshipped him that liveth for ever and ever.  (KJV)
