The Creation:
Hebrews 11:3
(a sermon)
By Rod Ross
Introduction: The most basic principle of the Bible is the fact that Jehovah God has created the
universe. By the pen of the prophet Jeremiah, the LORD God of heaven declared: I have made
the earth, the man and the beast that are upon the ground, by my great power and by my
outstretched arm, and have given it unto whom it seemed meet unto me. (Jeremiah 27:5 KJV)
Thy faithfulness is unto all generations: thou hast established the earth, and it abideth. They
continue this day according to thine ordinances: for all are thy servants. (Psalms 119:90-91
Jesus proclaimed God to be the Creator: But from the beginning of the creation God made
them male and female. (Mark 10:6 KJV)
The early church declared: And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one
accord, and said, Lord, thou art God, which hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all
that in them is: (Acts 4:24 KJV)
Ought we not to follow Christ’s example of faith if we claim to be Christians? If we seek to
restore New Testament Christianity and the church of the first century, can our faith be any
less than theirs?
The Bible begins with the true account of the creation as God delivered it to Moses. In the
beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void;
and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the
waters. (Genesis 1:1-2 KJV)
        GOD CREATED
        Barah – to create out of nothing; used only of God.
        Hebrews 11:3
        Creation through Jesus
        John 1:1-3
        Colossians 1:15-17
        Hebrews 1:2
        GAP THEORY
        The Gap Theory states there is an indeterminate period of time between Genesis 1:2
and 1:33 to allow for the great age of the earth claimed by modern geology.
        There is no indication of a gap.
        This theory states Genesis 1:1-2 is one creation, which was destroyed, and verses 3 on
are a re-creation or second creation.
        Based on “replenish” of verse 28.
        Used to harmonize dinosaurs and cavemen.
        No indication of second creation.
        IN SIX DAYS
        Length of days
        24 hours!
        Defined by “evening and morning.” The phrase is never used figuratively in the Bible, or
in the Hebrew language.
        Understood as 24 hours by Moses, the author (Exodus 20:11)
        Creation Week:
Day        Creation        Verses
1        Day & Night        1:3-5

ONE        Energizing of the physical elements of the cosmos.
TWO        Formation of the atmosphere and hydrosphere.
THREE        Formation of the lithosphere and biosphere.
FOUR        Formation of the astrosphere.
FIVE        Formation of life in the atmosphere and hydrosphere.
SIX        Formation of life for the lithosphere and biosphere.
SEVEN        Rest from the work of creating and making.

        Some have seen two different creation accounts in Genesis 1&2.
        Genesis 1 is an account of the universal creation.
        Genesis 2 is an account of the creation of man on the sixth day.
Conclusion: Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. (Genesis
2:1 KJV) The scriptures plainly teach the creation of all things by God Almighty. Let them
praise the name of the LORD: for he commanded, and they were created. (Psalms 148:5 KJV)
In six days (i.e. 24 hour periods) through or by the Word (Jesus) all that has been and is was
formed. The land and the sea, and all plants and animals, the sun, the moon, the planets,
and the stars, all of our world, the solar system, and of the universe itself, was created by the
one true and living God.
Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all
things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created. (Revelation 4:11 KJV)
Ah Lord GOD! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and
stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee: (Jeremiah 32:17 KJV)
