Hebrews 6:1-3

Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto
perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works,
and of faith toward God, Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of
hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. And this will
we do, if God permit. (Hebrews 6:1-3 KJV)

The Principles of the Doctrine of Christ

The principles, or the first things, of the teachings of Jesus Christ. These are the things which
must be understood. They are a part of the milk of the word.

Perfection is maturity. They needed to go beyond the acceptance of these truths.

Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ
Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung,
that I may win Christ, And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of
the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by
faith: That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his
sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; If by any means I might attain unto the
resurrection of the dead. Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect:
but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ
Jesus. Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting
those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I
press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Let us
therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise
minded, God shall reveal even this unto you. (Philippians 3:8-15 KJV)

The Foundation

These are the things upon which the faith and life of Christians are based.

Wherefore hear the word of the LORD, ye scornful men, that rule this people which is in
Jerusalem. Because ye have said, We have made a covenant with death, and with hell are
we at agreement; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, it shall not come unto
us: for we have made lies our refuge, and under falsehood have we hid ourselves:
Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried
stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.
Judgment also will I lay to the line, and righteousness to the plummet: and the hail shall
sweep away the refuge of lies, and the waters shall overflow the hiding place. (Isaiah
28:14-17 KJV)

Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to
whom he is like: He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the
foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that
house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock. But he that heareth, and doeth
not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the
stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.
(Luke 6:47-49 KJV)
According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid
the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth
thereupon. For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. (1
Corinthians 3:10-11 KJV)

Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints,
and of the household of God; And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets,
Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; In whom all the building fitly framed
together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: In whom ye also are builded together for
an habitation of God through the Spirit. (Ephesians 2:19-22 KJV)

Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain
riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; That they do good, that
they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate;  Laying up in store
for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on
eternal life. (1 Timothy 6:17-19 KJV)
Laying On of Hands

The laying of hands was connected with the giving of the Holy Spirit in miraculous measure.

Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word
of God, they sent unto them Peter and John: Who, when they were come down, prayed for
them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost: (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them:
only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.) Then laid they their hands on them,
and they received the Holy Ghost. And when Simon saw that through laying on of the
apostles' hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money, Saying, Give me also this
power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost. (Acts 8:14-19 KJV)
Resurrection of the Dead

The resurrection of the dead is a foundational principle of Christianity.
First, the resurrection of Jesus from the grave, and secondly the general
resurrection of the dead.

Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached
unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By
which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto
you, unless ye have believed in vain.  For I delivered unto you first of
all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins
according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose
again the third day according to the scriptures: And that he was seen
of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five
hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this
present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of
James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me
also, as of one born out of due time.  (1 Corinthians 15:1-8 KJV)
Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according
to the flesh; And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of
holiness, by the resurrection from the dead: By whom we have received grace and
apostleship, for obedience to the faith among all nations, for his name: (Romans 1:3-5 KJV)
Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of
God. For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the
angels of God in heaven. But as touching the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that
which was spoken unto you by God, saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac,
and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living. (Matthew 22:29-32

Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear
his voice, And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and
they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation. (John 5:28-29 KJV)
Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.
(John 11:24 KJV)

But this I confess unto thee, that after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God
of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the law and in the prophets: And have
hope toward God, which they themselves also allow, that there shall be a resurrection of the
dead, both of the just and unjust. (Acts 24:14-15 KJV)

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant
mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from
the dead, To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved
in heaven for you, Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be
revealed in the last time. (1 Peter 1:3-5 KJV)

But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye
sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose
again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For this we say unto
you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord
shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven
with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in
Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with
them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
Wherefore comfort one another with these words. (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 KJV)
